ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Drake University women’s soccer team continues its non-conference schedule with two matches at the Navy Invitational on Friday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 11. Drake opens the tournament against host, Navy, Friday night at 6 p.m. and returns to the field Sunday morning for an 11 a.m. match against Towson. Sophomore Alyssa Brand (Skokie, Ill.) scored the winning goals in each win and was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference for her outstanding weekend by being named MVC Offensive Player of the Week. Brand leads the team and ranks tied for the second in the MVC with three goals scored. Junior Kasey Hurt (Ankeny, Iowa) assisted on both Bulldogs’ goals in the win over Milwaukee. Hurt was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week. She leads the league in assists with three. As a team, Drake allowed its first goal of the season in the Milwaukee match. The Bulldogs held their opponents scoreless for the first 408 minutes and 53 seconds of the season before the Panthers broke through. Drake’s goals against average of 0.191 ranks ninth in the nation.
