Bonds: Let them investigate me

first_imgHe still could be indicted if a federal grand jury determines that he perjured himself when testifying in 2003 in the BALCO steroid-distribution case that he hadn’t knowingly taken performance-enhancing drugs. Bonds, who has long denied ever using steroids, said his level of concern about the investigation is “none.” He needs only 22 home runs to break Hank Aaron’s career record of 755. Bonds, the seven-time National League MVP who still is facing constant questions about whether his home run pursuit was fueled by steroids, finally signed his $15.8million, one-year deal last week after he and the Giants squabbled over contract language. The original deal was agreed to Dec. 7. Jeter says relationship with A-Rod non-issue: Maintaining they have a fine relationship on the field and in the clubhouse, Derek Jeter resolutely refused to discuss the deterioration of his friendship with Alex Rodriguez away from the ballpark. One day after A-Rod finally acknowledged the pair no longer are best friends, Jeter responded. Barry Bonds had a pointed message for the grand jury: Go ahead, investigate me. After arriving at spring training Tuesday in Scottsdale, Ariz., more fit than in recent years following a productive winter of conditioning, the slugger insisted he’s unfazed by all his off-the-field issues and is ready to resume his pursuit of the home run record. “Let them investigate. Let them, they’ve been doing it this long,” Bonds said after his first workout this year with the SanFrancisco Giants. “It doesn’t weigh on me at all – at all. It’s just you guys talking. It’s just media conversation.” Noticeably absent were his two personal trainers, Greg Oliver and Harvey Shields, who no longer can be with the slugger at the ballpark. Bonds, who spent the weekend in Las Vegas for the NBA All-Star Game, was flanked by his two publicists and a Major League Baseball security guard. center_img “I don’t have a rift with Alex,” the New York Yankees’ captain said in Tampa, Fla. “We go out there. We work together. This is our fourth year to be playing together. It’s annoying to hear about it all the time. Everyone assumes they know what our relationship is. Everyone assumes – they see us on the field, if one person gives another one a look, it’s a story. If we’re at opposite ends of the bench, people say it’s a story.” Also: Carlos Zambrano and the Chicago Cubs agreed to a $12.4 million, one-year contract, avoiding salary arbitration … Bernie Williams rejected the Yankees’ offer of a minor-league contract. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. New legislation for left lane driving on high-speed highways

first_imgIn addition, this legislation will allow the ministry to define winter tires as those with a mountain/snowflake symbol or the M+S (mud and snow) symbol by regulation – allowing for more easily updated definitions as tire technology changes. This includes updated requirements for studded tires and traction devices such as chains.Another change will permit local governments to permit motorcycle parking within six meters of intersections with stop signs or signals as long as drivers’ views are not impeded – allowing for more efficient use of space that is not large enough for a car. There is no word yet as to when these new rules come into effect.Advertisement The Rural Highway Safety and Speed Review found there was significant public concern with slow drivers travelling in the left lane on high-speed highways, leading to driver frustration and aggressive driving behaviours.“Drivers who won’t move over can impede traffic and contribute to crashes,” writes Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. “This new rule makes it clear who should travel in the left lane, and when, promoting safety on our highways.”The Motor Vehicle Amendment Act, 2015 clarifies that drivers are to travel in the right lane unless they are overtaking and passing another vehicle, moving left to allow traffic to merge, preparing for a left hand turn, or moving left to pass an official vehicle displaying a flashing light.- Advertisement -Drivers will be permitted to use the left-most lane if it is unsafe to use the right lane, such as if the right lane has not been ploughed or if there’s too much debris.During periods of traffic congestion when the actual travel speed drops to 50 km/h or less, drivers can use all lanes. When there is little traffic and no one is approaching from behind, a driver can also travel in the left-most lane. This was designed to allow drivers on four-lane highways in rural areas to keep a greater distance from the road sides where there may be wildlife.Advertisement Click here to read the entire Rural Highway Safety and Speed Review.last_img read more
