Today, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham made a surprise visit to Kentish Town C of E Primary School in London to celebrate World Children’s Day.UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham visits Kentish Town C of E Primary School, LondonCredit/Copyright: UNICEF/Dymond/2017During the visit, David met pupils aged between five and 11 from the student council to discuss the issues that affect them most such as their right to feel valued, listened to and respected. David then treated the children to an impromptu game of football in the playground of the North London school.Kentish Town Primary School is a Level Two Rights Respecting School, an initiative run by Unicef UK which supports schools to place the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of their ethos. It empowers pupils to realise their own rights and develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.David chose to visit Kentish Town Primary School as today marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the mobilisation of the first World Children’s Day.UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham said:“This World Children’s Day we are handing over the reins to children, encouraging them to speak out for each other. One important lesson from my travels with UNICEF is that we need to listen to children about the world they want to live in. Today it’s been really inspiring visiting the school. It’s amazing to see how happy and confident the kids are and listening to them talk so passionately about learning and respecting the rights of children.”Jude, aged 11, a pupil at Kentish Town Primary School said:“It was really fun meeting David today hear him talk about how important it is to help UNICEF. He gave really good answers to all the questions we asked him. It was even more exciting because today is World Children’s Day!”In addition to today’s school visit, David has released a short film in collaboration with UNICEF, in which he quizzes children about their views of the world. During the heart-warming film, Beckham is seen in conversation with five children asking a series of questions such as what changes they would like to see for children in the future and what rules they would give grown-ups. The film was recorded in New York with children aged 6-10 years-old: Smith (6), Jenna (7), Fiona (7), Jayla (8) and Royce (10).Video: #KidsTakeover with David Beckham | UNICEFChildren all around the world have been celebrating World Children’s Day today by ‘taking over’ key roles in media, politics, business, sport and entertainment to help save children’s lives, fight for their rights and fulfil their potential. In the UK, hundreds of schools have taken part in the OutRight campaign – Unicef UK’s annual schools campaign that enables and empowers children and young people to speak out in support of children’s rights and celebrate World Children’s Day.David Beckham has been a long standing supporter of UNICEF since playing with Manchester United and became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2005. In 2015, his tenth year with Unicef, he launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to help protect children in danger. David is working with Unicef to ensure that world leaders put children first and agree new development goals that will help end violence, preventable death and poverty for every child.

Home minster Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said law enforcers have arrested the mastermind of Rangpur arson attack, whose Facebook post triggered the agitation as it hurt the Muslims’ religious sentiment, reports UNB.“The mastermind, Titu, was detained from Nilphamari,” the minister said after visiting Thakurbari village in the district. He said police carried out their duties as they were supposed to do, and those responsible for the agitation, no matter who they are, will be brought to justice. “Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh is a non-communal country and no one can conspire here.”The home minster will return to the capital after attending a scheduled rally at Harkali Madrasa ground in Sadar upazila in the afternoon.Earlier on Saturday morning, police filed a case against more than 2,000 people over the clash and detained 36 people from Gangachhara and Kotwali areas on Friday night in this connection.A man was killed and 20 others, including four policemen, were injured during the clash.
A Screen grabAnti-tobacco group Progga has labelled the proposed national budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal as anti-public health and ineffective to reduce tobacco consumption, reports UNB.”The budget leaves cigarette tax rates and price slabs untouched which will benefit tobacco companies,” Progga executive director ABM Zubair said in a statement on Friday. He said that considering factors such as inflation and increase in per capita income, the hike in tobacco price will do “absolutely nothing” in encouraging low-income people to cut tobacco use and discouraging potential new users and the youth from lighting up.The budget also keeps the existing 45 per cent corporate tax on cigarette, bidi and smokeless tobacco companies. The 2.5 per cent health development surcharge on the income of tobacco businesses is also in place. He said prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s directive was to build a tobacco-free nation by 2040 by adopting a strong tobacco taxation policy.”Unfortunately, the proposed budget does not reflect the directive of the prime minister and frustrates the anti-tobacco activists,” Zubair said.

(PhysOrg.com) — You have spent the night out on the town and had a few drinks with friends. At the end of the evening, you figure you have only had a few drinks. You should be fine to drive right? While this is something that is heard in many bars throughout the country, there is now a new app designed to help you determine if you are indeed sober enough to be driving. The new iPhone app, known as BreathalEyes, uses the iPhone camera to record and measure a person’s Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). This HGN is the involuntary eye movement that can occur when a person is impaired by alcohol and is one of the many different field sobriety tests that are conducted by police officers. New mobile app, ShoeBox, helps scan old photos Explore further This document is subject to copyright. The results show that the new app has an effective range of 0.02 – 0.18 percent and a (+/-) 0.02 percent accuracy of blood alcohol content, or BAC, levels. The disadvantage of this app is you cannot administer it to yourself. You will have to have a friend with a steady hand hold the camera. The test must also be conducted in good lighting so that leaves most bars or clubs out.Currently this app is only available for the iPhone 4 or later but the company has plans to have an Android app available within the year for the low cost of only $0.99.
