No, I do not accept it,” he told Le Pelerin.”You do not have to be fatalistic in certain situations. I have always been respectful and humble. Even if I do not agree with the coach, I do not criticise him.”But in myself, I cannot accept it because I know what I’m worth on a pitch. Last year, when I felt that I deserved to play, I asked the coach for explanations.”

Michigan may have completely overhauled its coaching staff this offseason, but clearly, Michigan State and its fans aren’t conceding state bragging rights any time soon. Thursday night, one MSU board of trustees member made that clear.Mitch Lyons, the Vice-Chair of the Michigan State Board of Trustees, had a little fun with new Michigan tight ends coach Jay Harbaugh on Twitter. Harbaugh, clearing trying to endear himself to his new fan base, asked his followers if it was legal to own a Wolverine as a pet. Lyons responded, telling Harbaugh he should ask Coach Mark Dantonio. If you aren’t connecting the dots, he’s claiming that Dantonio owns the Wolverines.@JayHarbaugh @ryanschuiling Ask Coach D…..#GoGreen— Mitch Lyons (@mlyons85) January 23, 2015Considering Dantonio is 6-2 against Michigan in his time in East Lansing, this is an A+ troll job. Unfortunately, Harbaugh never responded, instead choosing to ignore the comment.
Derby County are hoping that they can convince Frank Lampard to remain with them although will not stand in his way if Chelsea finalise talks over appointing him as their new manager.According to sources familiar with Lampard’s situation at Derby, Rams owner Mel Morris has been delighted with the work the 40-year-old has done at Pride Park and is even planning to offer him a new deal to stay put. With Lampard in charge, Derby came close to securing a place in the Premier League for the 2019-20 season, narrowly losing 2-1 to Aston Villa in the play-off final at Wembley. And the former Chelsea midfielder continues to be the front runner to replace Maurizio Sarri, with early talks having already taken place.Despite attempting to extend his contract, Derby are not expected to stand in Lampard’s way if the Blues firm up their interest and press ahead with talks to appoint him as their new manager. The Premier League club will, however, have to pay £3.5 million to buy him out his contract at Derby should they finalise a move for their legendary former player, with Sarri now all set to join Juventus. The Serie A champions have pushed hard to complete a deal for the Italian, with the west Londoners due to net between £2.7m and £4.5m in compensation.Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia held face-to-face talks with Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici in London last week over a two-day period and the Turin giants believe they’ve made decisive progress to secure Sarri. The likes of former Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri, Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Watford’s Javi Gracia and ex-Paris Saint-Germain head coach Laurent Blanc have all been considered for the top job at Stamford Bridge. However, Lampard is the favoured candidate as the Blues prepare to have to deal with a two-window transfer ban, likely meaning they will need to make more use of their loanees and youth players in the 2019-20 season.Chelsea opted not to ask for a freeze of the ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after they were punished for misconduct in the transfers of under-18 overseas players. The decision to not ask for provisional measures is thought to be a strategic one as the Blues continue to deny wrongdoing and have appealed the ban as a whole. Their judicial hearing isn’t, however, going to be heard in time for them to sign new players.Elsewhere at the club, Willian has not yet signed a new two-year deal despite what has been reported in the media, with the winger focusing on his commitments with Brazil at Copa America and no announcement imminent.
Wilfried Zaha’s quality is not in doubt, but former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour is not convinced that he is the answer for Arsenal at £100 million ($127m).The Ivory Coast international has been heavily linked with a move to Emirates Stadium and the boyhood Arsenal fan is said to have pleaded with current club Crystal Palace to grant him a switch across London during the current transfer window.Unai Emery is, however, working with a limited transfer budget. It’s a lot of money to splash out on one player.“You might look at other positions needing strengthening as well.“Depending on the budget, we’ll have to wait and see. He’s certainly a very good player, real quality.”Parlour is not the only former Arsenal star to have questioned the logic of Emery investing a sizeable chunk of his transfer kitty on Zaha.Ex-goalkeeper David Seaman feels the Palace star would be any unnecessary luxury in north London. He has reiterated that defensive additions should be prioritised this summer, with the Gunners already well-stocked for creative forwards.“There’s talk of Zaha coming in but that’s not really the position that we need, which is strange,” said Seaman.“I wouldn’t have thought [Wilf Zaha will be wearing the Arsenal shirt], I’d be very surprised if he did. I’d rather see a good defender wearing it!”Emery is in the market for reinforcements at the back.Sources close to a proposed €25 million (£23m/$29m) raid for Saint-Etienne defender Willian Saliba have revealed that transfer talks are open as Arsenal seek to beat arch-rivals Tottenham to the teenage centre-half.
Eddie Nketiah has joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Arsenal, it has been confirmed. The 20-year-old impressed during the Gunners’ pre-season tour and coach Unai Emery suggested that the forward would be given a chance in the Premier League in 2019-20.Bristol City had also been keen on a temporary move for the highly-rated striker, who suggested last month he was open to a temporary switch. It has been six seasons since Michigan defeated Ohio State. Before that 2011 Wolverines win, the Buckeyes captured seven straight in The Game. Michigan vs. Ohio State is a historic rivalry, but it is ridiculously one-sided right now. That’s not okay with Charles Woodson. The former Michigan superstar has been very active around his alma mater as of late. Late last month, he served as the school’s commencement speaker. His speech went viral around the college football world for one specific declaration. The rivalry came up in his address to his newest fellow alumni. In his speech, he guaranteed a win over the Buckeyes in 2018.“But I’m telling you here today, 212 days from now, your Michigan Wolverines team will go down to Columbus, march into that stadium and we will beat you know who to bring back that familiar feeling of victory back to The University of Michigan again.”Charles Woodson had more to say about Michigan vs. Ohio State today.Woodson attended the ChadTough Gala, an event held in memory of Chad Carr. It benefits research towards fighting pediatric brain tumors.During the event, he said that he thinks the program has lost focus on the Ohio State rivalry. From The Detroit News:“To be quite honest I really feel like over the years, in recent years, there hasn’t been the emphasis that I’m used to being put on that game,” Woodson said.“Every game has been out on the same level of that game and that’s not the way we were brought up, that’s not the way we were raised around here. And we had no shame in saying it.”Woodson played at Michigan from 1995-1997. The Wolverines swept the Buckeyes in those three seasons, the last time the team claimed three games in a row against its archrival. He won the 1997 Heisman Trophy, and went on to become the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft. He retired after the 2015 season, and is a very likely Hall of Famer.[The Detroit News]

There’s a strong chance they will both be in the playoff again. That might be boring for some college football fans, but it seems to suit Swinney just fine.

We have some new ones regarding the Big Ten.A college football analyst has ranked the Big Ten’s quarterback situations from best to worst heading into the 2019 season. What programs have the best quarterback situations in the league? What programs have the worst?According to one college football analyst, the worst quarterback situation, unfortunately, resides at Rutgers.247Sports’ Sam Hellman has named Rutgers’ quarterback situation the worst in the league. From his ranking:14. RutgersSophomore Artur Sitkowski has a lot of talent with some good days ahead of him, but it is hard to overlook the numbers of what was his freshman season. A four-touchdown, 18-interception season under offensive coordinator John McNulty and head coach Chris Ash is the definition of growing pains. Add in former prized recruit Johnathan Lewis bouncing between quarterback and tight end and the departure of fifth-year senior captain Giovanni Rescigno and Rutgers has some developing to do this spring. This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Rutgers has struggled to get consistency from the quarterback position for a while and, while Sitowski is talented, he’s fairly unproven. You can view the full quarterback rankings for the 2019 season here.

ANN ARBOR, MI – SEPTEMBER 27: A general view of Michigan Stadium during the first quarter of the game between the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Michigan Wolverines on September 27, 2014 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. (Photo by Leon Halip/Getty Images)There is a long time until he can sign with a school, but we may have a Big Ten showdown for 2021 signal caller J.J. McCarthy. The rising junior quarterback is starting to get serious hype as a prospect. While he doesn’t have ratings from every recruiting site yet, 247Sports‘ in-house rankings have him as a four-star player. He’s the No. 19 overall player in the country, and No. 2 among pro-style QBs, which means he could have a fifth star in his future as well. McCarthy is also the top player in Illinois. It sounds like he may stay relatively local for college, based on how things are going right now. A number of analysts see Michigan as J.J. McCarthy’s leader, but the Wolverines may get a run from Northwestern. He spoke to WolverinesWire about the two programs, and it is the academics that set them apart. He’s currently focused on Michigan and Northwestern, as academics are key in his opinion. The quarterback is still deciding between engineering and business for his undergraduate degree.“The coaches have been great at each school,” McCarthy told WolverinesWire. “I love both head coaches and the direction of their programs. Education is insane at both schools.”In a recent Chicago Tribune profile, he raved about the two competing coaches—Jim Harbaugh and Pat Fitzgerald—as well.“Asked which coaches have left an impression, he begins with Pat Fitzgerald, saying: ‘He is such a cool guy, such a family man and has been awesome, especially to my mom and dad. He is trying to build a powerhouse, which I love. I love his staff and his players, and it’s going to be an exciting year for them.’[…]‘You never know what you will get out of (Harbaugh),’ he says. ‘He doesn’t let the quarterbacks eat chicken because they are weak birds. I thought that was funny because I’m not a big fan of chicken. I like steak.’Harbaugh’s visit to Nazareth got canceled by the polar vortex. But McCarthy visited Ann Arbor last month for the Wolverines’ open spring practice and says he was impressed by how Harbaugh, a former NFL quarterback, interacted with his passers.‘And they’re in South Africa right now,’ McCarthy says of the team trip. ‘That is so cool.’”10 recruiting analysts have logged their predictions over at 247, and all 10 have him ending up a Wolverine. He’d follow a strong string of blue-chip quarterback recruits, in Dylan McCaffrey (2017), Joe Milton (2018), Cade McNamara (2019), and JD Johnson (2020). Toss in Ole Miss transfer and current starter Shea Patterson, and Harbaugh has done a great job of adding talent to the quarterback room. Now, he needs the results to follow.[WolverinesWire; Chicago Tribune]
